iTHEMBA PROJECTS

OUR TEAM

Early Childhood Development

iThemba is the perfect place for me to combine my skills in ECD and my passion for young children and community development. I work with teachers, children and ECD Mentors, finding solutions to challenges, driving roads and dodging cattle and goats, getting dirty, receiving smiles and hugs from the most special children. This is my dream job and I am privileged to work alongside colleagues who share my passion. When not working I try my best to raise 3 kids, 3 Labradors, 3 ducks and 1 cat to be responsible, decent citizens.

I had a 5 month internship at iThemba Preschool while doing my studies and loved it! I'm excited to be a home mentor to bring hope to our community and build relationships between parents and their children. I love the Chiefs soccer team- it's a winning team! My favorite food is phuthu, beef and beetroots.

I love my job because I get to meet with different families, teachers and children and do what I am passionate about (ECD). I will never forget when I went to a running competition at Grace College with the Mashaka children from running club and our kids placed well even without shoes! When I’m not at iThemba, I love to spend time with my son. You may like to know that I got to know who God is and experienced his love when I joined iThemba, also I discovered that I actually would love to work with children for the rest of my life.

My favorite food is chicken penne pasta. I support the Kaizer Chief's soccer team. I am passionate about working with families in Sweetwaters because the early years are when children learn best. If we can support families in learning how to play with their children, we will truly be a light and help them change the world.

I'm excited about helping mentor teachers because I think ECD is important and I must be passionate because people are looking up to me. I support the Chiefs soccer team. I love any kind of pasta- either spaghetti and mince or macaroni and cheese!

I feel so blessed to work under an amazing IThemba team, also, to get a chance to make a difference with the children of Sweetwater’s. I’m also so getting excited to share my knowledge with older people around the crèches of Sweetwater because they keep teaching me new things. It’s always a pleasure to watch a winning team like Mamelody Sundown’s beat bigger clubs like the Pirates or Chiefs and after the game, celebrating by eating my favorite food, idombolo and boil a full chicken.

I like seeing the change of attitude towards sustainable food production- when a person knows very little and requires a lot of help to the point where they become creative about using local resources to make a living out of their land.

I'm very happy to be part of the iThemba Projects family, and I'm very keen to have an impact in people's lives. I have no favorite food-- as long as it is food and it is good for me I love it! I am a great fan of the Kaizer chiefs.

Mentoring Team

I enjoy working at iThemba because it is not a job for me but rather a calling. Working at iThemba makes me see hope for what it really is. iThemba Camps are mostly the highlight of my year, my favourite moment was getting a mud bath twice within two weeks. I really enjoy watching soccer at the stadium – mostly Maritzburg United, because I love being around people. Being there helps me to connect with friends and I express my support more in a loud and crazy way.

I enjoy working at IThemba because I am able to help young people to become what God created them to be. It gives me joy to hear someone saying thank you for being there for me and understanding me. My favorite memory at work is seeing the joy that kids have when I visit them at their homes. When I’m not at work I like to listen to music and cook.

One thing that I love about working at iThemba is that I am getting a chance to give back to my community. One of my favorite food is uphuthu no jede and I like the Chiefs.

I love what I do at iThemba because it is teaching me a lot about my career.  Some of the things I like to do and that I’m good at are soccer, basketball, music, and dancing (hip hop, Zulu reed, and house dance).

I love my job because the difference that I make in lives of those children also makes a change in their futures and their community, and at the same the whole society. A highlight of my time at iThemba would be those moments when I see a smile on the faces of those kids. When I’m not at  iThemba, I love to read  a lot and I like watch relaxed movies at home. You may like to know that I also do pastoral work.

My full name is Nhlanhla,  and I am a fan of Orlando pirates. For fun I like music, playing games, soccer, and being with my friends. The thing I like about my job is the chance to impact young lives in my community. I also like giving back to the community I grew up in, and being a role model for the kids, and just being there for them.

I was studying at university while also volunteering with iThemba before I became a mentor. I'm excited to help mentor others now. I support the chief's soccer team, and I love beef curry with rice and salads and fruit.

I started at iThemba as a volunteer after I completed highschool, and it is so great to get to be on staff helping to change my community.

Construction Team

I enjoy working at iThemba because I get the chance to work with the team of amazing people who are all called to serve a larger purpose. Also, developing the community through building a centre of excellence for the kids of Sweetwaters. I enjoy seeing kids playing and learning in a safe place that I am part of building.

I love what I do because it’s about something far greater than myself. It’s about helping people become all they were created to be.  And hopefully in that, I too am becoming more fully who I was created to be! A highlight of my time at Themba would be – woah!  Far too many to list here, but the list would largely be around the people I work with, who inspire me every day – to live better, to love better and in whom I see so much hope for a brighter future.  When I’m not at iThemba, I love to get out into nature – the mountains in particular fill my soul! You may like to know that I am not a fan of rugby or boerewors.

I love that I can use my gifts at iThemba in the service of empowering a community! I think my favorite thing about my job is the people I work with-- it's very inspiring to collect their stories and share them with our funding partners. I love peanut butter (with banana, with chocolate... with ANYTHING!) and I'm not really a sports fan at all... so I stay out of the Pirates Chiefs divide!

I love the life change and growth I get to be a part of.

What I love about my job is the people I get to serve with and the positive impact I get to witness on a daily basis.

I previously was working in the corporate environment in Joburg, and I love that at iThemba I can making a positive impact in young people's lives and also learn from them. I guess by default, I support Chiefs - my partner is a Chiefs fan. Favorite food--I am a simple person - I love love bread with peanut butter and sometimes with a slice of cheese.

I'm passionate about  family, sport and all things African. And of course inviting people to share their resources with iThemba. I believe there are enough resources for us all to prosper.
